Junkers Ju52 Κύθηρα. Τα συντρίμμια βρίσκονται στο βάθος των 35 μέτρων (2 κινητήρες και μέρος του ουραίου τμήματος – οριζόντιος σταθεροποιητής), ενώ υπάρχουν διασκορπισμένα σε απόσταση μεγαλύτερη των 50 μέτρων, δομικά και μη μέρη του αεροσκάφους.
Όπως σε πολλές περιπτώσεις ναυαγίων μετά τον πόλεμο, το Ju52 δέχτηκε επανειλημμένα δυναμίτες με σκοπό την απόσπαση και την περισυλλογή μετάλλου. VIDEO
Τέσσερα Beaufighter Mk.VIc της 227 μοίρας στις 26.01.1944 απογειώνονται από τον αεροδιάδρομο BERKA III της Βεγγάζη για περιπολία στην Νότια Πελοπόννησο.
Στο σημείο 36.42N, 22.25E εντοπίζουν δικάταρτο καΐκι 80 τόννων το οποίο ήταν αγκυροβολημένο. Το σημείο αγκυροβολίου ήταν προστατευμένο από λόφους ύψους 400 μέτρων.
Το Beaufighter Mk.VIc με αριθμό JL708 E στην προσπάθεια του να πλήξει το καΐκι επιχείρησε προσκρούει στην θάλασσα με αποτέλεσμα τη συντριβή του.

26/1/1944 301FTU, 227 Sqn. Dived into sea while attacking caique. At 1117hrs, posn. 36.42N, 22.25E sighted two-masted caique 80 tons anchored in bay bordered on three sides by high hills up to 1200 feet. Two attacks in which all aircraft dropped bombs with unobserved results. Vessel damaged by many fire with cannon. In diving to attack, “E” was seen to crash into the sea, apparently unable to pull out of dive. Further attacks abandoned owing to difficulty of approach. “E” disintegrated and no survivors were seen. Marauder Mark I, FK375 ‘D’ ‘Dominion Revenge’, of No. 14 Squadron RAF

Marauder FK 375 of 14 Sqn RAF took off at 0905 hours on 3 January 1943 from Shallufa in company of a second Marauder, to carry out a torpedo attack against enemy shipping in the Aegean Sea. The weather was bad and visibility poor. Shortly after passing Kea Island, north of the Rymlades Group, and on a south west course, a small vessel was observed. This was found to be part of a convoy of five vessels escorted by several aircraft including an autogyro. The Marauders separated to launch an attack. Two messages were received from FK 375 that fighters were attacking and the other that machine was damaged and would have to force land but torpedo attack delivered before fighter engagement. No further news received from aircraft or of crew.

Lt Young (Pilot of FK 375) who became a POW later stated “Forced to make landing on sea off Seriphas Island. When he freed himself and got out of the aircraft, Bennett was sitting on top of the fuselage near his escape hatch. He stated that the Observer was still inside and climbed back to try and get him out. No sooner had he climbed back in when the aircraft sank going down nose first in a rush. Bennett never appeared again. He died in a brave attempt to rescue another member of the crew”.

Summary:
Wellington W 5584 of 148 Sqn RAF, took off at night on 19 January 1942 to bomb Salamis, Greece, and failed to return. An Italian broadcast on 21 January 1942 stated that an aircraft had been shot down over Elevsis on 19 January 1942.

A report on interrogations of local residents after the war and investigations carried out in Elevsis and Salamis areas state that an aircraft was shot down and crashed into the sea 2 miles south of Elevsis on 19 January 1942. It also stated that the Germans made a search of the area and could find no trace of the aircraft or crew. Elevsis is on the coast approx 10 miles North West of Athens, whilst Salamis is six miles south west of Elevsis on the island of Kuluri. It was assumed that the aircraft crashed in the sea near Elevsis and that the crew were lost at sea.
Αναφορά κατάρριψης αεροσκάφους τύπου Beaufighter στη Σέριφο με αριθμό NE 421.
Στις 11 Απριλίου 1944, σχηματισμός από τέσσερα Beaufighter επιτέθηκαν σε καΐκι 150 τόνων που βρισκόταν αγκυροβολημένο στη μέση του όρμου Λιβάδι, Σερίφου. Περιγράφεται η επίθεση των Beaufighter καθώς και η μαρτυρία των πιλότων για την συντριβή του Beaufighter NE421 μετά την επίθεση στο καΐκι με δύο ζεύγη R.P 25lb ( Rocket Projectile 3 ιντσών). Τα βλήματα αυτά χρησιμοποιήθηκαν από την RAF στη διάρκεια του Β’ Π.Π από βομβαρδιστικά αεροσκάφη εναντίον στόχων όπως σε δεξαμενές, τρένα, οχήματα καθώς και κτηρίων.
Από την έρευνα που πραγματοποιήθηκε από τα άλλα 3 Beaufighter αμέσως μετά τη συντριβή εντοπίστηκαν τα συντρίμμια του αεροσκάφους ενώ δεν υπήρξε καμία ένδειξη για τυχών επιζώντες.
Beaufighter NE 421 of 603 (City of Edinburgh) Sqn RAF, took off from RAF Station,Gambut, Middle East, at 1355C hours on 11 April 1944 together with three other Sqn aircraft, for an offensive sweep of Antikithera, Serephos, Paros, Nios, Santorin and Caso. The formation of 4 Beaufighters arrived without incident at Serephos at 1608C, swept the west, north and eastern coasts and climbed overland to run into Livadhi Bay in the middle of which a 150 ton caique painted grey, was anchored.
The four aircraft formed into fairly close line astern to attack the caique on which lightack-ack positions were observed at the bow, stern and amidships. The leading and second aircraft made their attacks scoring hits, and WO Lynch then made the third attack with two pairs of 25lb R.P., the first pair undershooting and the second pair hitting amidships. The pilot of the 4th attacking aircraft reported seeing a flash comparable with a strike of an explosive bullet, beneath the starboard engine nacelle of NE 421 flown by WO Lynch.
Other crews saw black smoke trail from the starboard engine of NE 421 which continued to fly straight and level for one and a half minutes at 100 feet. The aircraft then turned starboard through 45deg. and lose height; at 1612C hours in position 37.05N 24.32E the starboard wing appeared to drop to the vertical, and in the intervening twenty feet before hitting the sea, the starboard engine burst into flames. The impact with the sea was marked by a large flash and explosion and the machine disintegrated.
The three remaining aircraft circled for 5 minutes and reported seeing wreckage and burning debris, including a semi inflated dinghy. There was no sign of any survivors. Some photographs of the crash scene were taken. No R/T message was received from NE
421 after the attack and before it crashed.

Beaufighter _ Κύθηρα
Tο Βρετανικό ελαφρύ βομβαρδιστικό Bristol Beaufighter κατέπεσε τον Απρίλιο του 1944, στο Νότιο μέρος των Κυθήρων στη θέση Aκ. Γκρόσο. Παρουσιάζονται κάποιες από τις σελίδες από την Έκθεση Μάχης του Γερμανού διοικητή της οκταμελούς Μονάδας Αντιαεροπορικών Καταστρώματος Koeler που κατέρριψαν το Beuafighter στις 16 Απρίλη του 1944. Επίσης σκίτσο με την τελευταία πορεία του Βρετανικού αεροσκάφους μέχρι το σημείο πτώσης.

Σύμφωνα με τα ημερολόγια μάχης που αφορούν τις Νοτιοαφρικανικές μοίρες (αρχείο: Μανώλης Μπαρδάνης) το αεροσκάφος το οποίο άνηκε στην δύναμή της 16 SAAF, παρά τις σοβαρές βλάβες από τα πυρά αντιαεροπορικών, κατάφερε και επέστρεψε στη βάση του.
